Sony PlayMemories Storing/Sharing Play

Sony recently launched its new PlayMemories series of post-shooting solutions to enable you to view, edit and share your videos and photos on a variety of electronic devices, including LCD TVs, personal computers, tablets and smartphones.

Under the concept “Play More. All Your Memories,” the PlayMemories series is set up to provide an experience where personal content can be easily customized and enjoyed across multiple products after it’s captured.

The service consists of a Cloud storage service called PlayMemories Online along with three applications – PlayMemories Home, PlayMemories Studio and PlayMemories Mobile.

Sony announced a few additional details on this service recently saying that users will get 5GB of free storage on the service at sign up. PlayMemories Online goes live this spring, with a late March/early April tentative launch date for now.

A few additional details on each element of the service:

PlayMemories Online

This cloud-based service will let you upload photos and videos captured with digital cameras or camcorders and enjoy them anytime, anywhere on multiple devices, including compatible Bravia TVs, PCs, tablets and smartphones. With a single account, you can enjoy this service as well as other music and video services offered on the Sony Entertainment Network platform.

PlayMemories Studio

Taking advantage of the high processing power of Sony’ PS3 systems, you can freely navigate personal videos and photos, and edit HD video content in an interactive video-game-style interface. This service can also be used remotely with a PlayStationVita or PSP device via RemotePlay (requires wireless connection). In addition to content stored on the PS3, this application permits you to access personal videos and photos on external cameras, hard drives and storage devices connected via USB to the PlayStation. Content can also be shared to PlayMemories Online, Facebook and more.

The other two apps, PlayMemories Home and PlayMemories Mobile, are essentially free media management apps. Home is a PC program that’s included with new Sony still and video cameras and Mobile can be downloaded to your iOS and Android phones.
