Digital photo frames may not be all the rage, but the Kickstarted Instacube hopes to change all that with its own interesting spin on the product: tight integration with Instagram.
Essentially the Instacube is a digital photo frame purpose built for displaying Instagram streams. It promises a three-step set-up: plug in, connect to your Wi-Fi network and log into Instagram.
From there on out it’s just a steady stream of your Instagram photos (and anyone you follow) on the 600 x 600 pixel, 6.5-inch square display. It offers a rechargeable battery too so you can unplug and carry it around. You can also “like” Instagram photos by pressing a dedicated “heart” button on the top of the frame.
In the future, the makers of the Instacube have some bigger plans for the device beyond just displaying an Instagram feed. Thanks to a partnership with SmartThings, they want to add apps such as an alarm clock or control over other wireless devices in the home. But for now, it’s strictly about your Instagram images.
The Instacube is due later this year for $199.
